If you prefer powerboats to sailboats, you can get RYA Day Skipper to Yachtmaster licences for powerboats. Alternatively, if you already have one of these sailboat licences and would like to learn how to operate a powerboat, the RYA Powerboat 1 or 2 and above courses (Intermediate, Advanced - details on request) may be suitable.

Powerboat 1 + 2

This course focuses on guiding the boat at low speeds around objects, the 'man overboard' manoeuvre, an introduction to slip driving and an introduction to the rules for avoiding collisions at sea. It can be completed in inland or offshore waters and the certificate will then be marked accordingly. The course content includes boat composition and loading, underway handling, buoy mooring, anchoring, bouncing and landing, MOB. After the course you will be able to operate a powerboat independently in suitable weather conditions and with an awareness of the limits of your own and crew's skills.

Pre-course requirements: none

Course length: Sunday, 9am-5pm

Minimum age required: 12 years old (graduates under 16 years old will receive a restricted certificate)
